I don't care to hear any dissenting opinions on this matter, this series is perfection itself. Am I highly biased by what reading it meant to me as a young reader? Absolutely. Am I open to hearing critiques-- however objective and fair they may be? No, absolutely not.
Masterfully foreshadowed and carefully paced, I was compelled to keep reading nearly the entire time. Character growth was rewarding and well represented over the length of time a person might reasonably need to change their perspectives and grow. The plot had a classic take, with the wicked king needing overthrowing, but it was the progression in character motivation and the landmarks along the way that made the payoff so thrilling. And no, I don't think it was cheap to overcome the Big Bad without a true physical/power contest, it would have felt cheap and insincere to have someone with so much more power suddenly weak enough for someone on such a lesser scale to defeat him.
The one and only thing I'll admit to being flawed in this series, is the enemy power scaling. I've learned to resent a protagonist who grows strong enough to overcome great obstacles only to find the next obstacle is just that much higher... even so, Eragon himself notices this and it allows for the admission to his ow shortcomings and need for growth.
