The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill
5.0

I don't have any evidence of this, but in my mind at least, Newbery winners are usually historical fiction. And even though I have been proved wrong again and again, my first instinct when I hear about historical fiction is "Boring!" So I'm not always super excited about the Newbery. But my first instinct when I hear fantasy is pretty much, "Huzzah! And well met!" Basically, I was very excited when I found out that this book won. And it's really, really good. Child me would have been entranced, and adult me loved it. I never say this, but I would also love a prequel (prequels are lame, as a rule. I don't care about your origin story, Darth Vader!). I want to know more about Glerk, and Fyrian, and Xan. But I'm totally happy knowing what I know. I'm also looking forward to rereading this someday, because I know I missed a lot of stuff.
