The Lewis Man by Peter May

4.0

I liked the first book in this series better, but this one still had some of the same elements that I enjoyed previously. I like the main character, Fin, who seems like an honorable person with some issues. I also like the setting which feels like a harsh place to live which explains why so many of the characters have a toughness to them.

What I didn't like so much this time was the use of flashbacks to tell almost 1/2 the story. I would have preferred to keep Fin as the main focus. I also wasn't crazy about the ending, which was a little too over-the-top and also abrupt. It could've used another chapter or two to wrap things up.

I would try another book in the series but I'm hoping that the next one lightens up a little. I wouldn't call this a grim book, but it resembled the rainy, windy weather that was common in the story.
