The Pillow Book by Sei Shōnagon

challenging emotional funny hopeful lighthearted reflective

She's just a girl <3. While the The Pillow Book can seem extremely intimidating in it's historical perspective, antiquated language, and random organization, it can be enjoyed by anyone if you tap into the vibes. A woman's personal writings in her 'diary' transcend time and culture-there's going to be random lists, recaps of interactions with lovers, and of course COMPLAINTS.

Sei Shonagon's name is on everyone's lips (especially her own). With a confidence and dare I say strong *princess* mentality, she holds the court in the palm of her hand with her wit and endless supply of gossip. She loves birds and flowers and poetry and sex and snow and clothes. So many clothes. Her ability to paint a picture of a world that has been lost to us forever with such clarity is a treasure and cannot be understated.
