Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson

4.0

If you want to read Brandon Sanderson but you don't want to commit to a 500+ page book or/and series then this is the book for you.

Though it is very different to his pervious novels, Tress of the Emerald Sea is a good start if you want something on the lighter side of fantasy/sci-fi. But true to Sanderson's style the world building and magic/tech systems are complex. Do not worry! I think he added those extra details for the more hardcore fans to enjoy.

It was nice to see references from the pervious works sprinkled throughout, that was a detail when my guesses were confirmed.

The book is more about Tress as a person then it is about the journey. The other characters were distinct and colourful, I don't think I came across a dull moment.
The pacing was perfect, mixed with fast action that never missed a beat and steady moments for the reader to slow themselves to taken in the current or recent moment.

Out of all of Sanderson's novels, I would recommend this one to be the first of people to read. It is a very light-hearted, happy-go-lucky, good feels type of story.
Some plots I predicting correctly, but I still enjoyed the ride.

It didn't get 5 stars, because at the end, it didn't leave me in awe.
It's good, but not great.
