I really wanted to love this book, and I kept sticking with it in hopes that at some point Hazel would start having agency over her own decisions. Any decisions at all! Even a single one! This wants to be a book about a strong, smart, independent woman. It's not: it's a book about a girl whose life is dictated entirely by the actions of everyone around her - most often by her godfather telling her why she has no choices.
