BEAUTIFUL. it's been a couple of weeks since i first read this and i still can't stop thinking about it so i just had to change my rating to five stars. the IMAGERY....... there are no words. i truly felt like I was there. while i did enjoy ellis' point of view, his character was a bit bland & i couldn't connect to him much at first. michael's perspective is really what i think makes this book as good as it is. everything is just so vivid

i love how the book started with dora and how even though she wasn't directly there throughout most of the book, it was clear she always a part of their lives through the recurring appearance of her sunflower painting. when michael visited in france, her presence felt visualized and heightened the longer he stayed there. the ending was perfect. it circled back to the photo of ellis, michael, & annie in such a beautiful way. this book was truly an experience
