"Your silence will not protect you."--Audre Lorde

Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu was a book I got from The Introverts Retreat subscription box. This is not a book I would have picked for myself, which is why I love subscription boxes! This was a pleasant surprise!

This was sort of like a less intense version of The Nowhere Girls, where girls in high school come together from all walks of life to challenge the oppressive school system that has very gendered double standards.

We follow Vivian, as she navigates high school and deals with the boys being casually sexist and harassing. She finally has enough, and after looking through her mom's old Riot Grrrls stuff from the '90s, she decides to create her own feminist zine calling out the boys' behaviors and schools failure to act.

This creates a huge following and ultimately leads to real change and new friendships, and understanding that using your voice is powerful. #girlpower

I highly recommend this book to all teens, but especially teen girls who are contatantly being silenced, victim blamed, and not taken seriously. Let this book help you find your voice!
