This was a strange book, as advertised. I wouldn't really consider it horror, but I'm not sure what other category to put it in, other than general literary fiction. I feel like I would have enjoyed taking a course that read this book or reading it with more academic intentions, but didn't really focus enough to appreciate it fully. It wasn't quite what I hoped, but was interesting, and I suspect I'll continue to think about it.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Eating disorder, Self harm
Moderate: Animal death, Body horror, Emotional abuse, Sexism, Sexual assault, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide attempt
The animal cruelty and animal death are entirely contained in the italicized dream portions of the book. If you skip/skim these you can avoid it, especially recommend avoiding the one about the dog bite.
