This was a solid 3. This first book is a product of its time with it'd cliches and pacing. It didn't make this book bad for me, but I had to remind myself that it was published in 2011.

So I will say that the pacing of this book is VERY slow. Yes there are things happening, questions being asked and information being found, but it is still a very slow paced story. The best way that I could describe is, is that it was simmering.

But I think that for someone, especially a teen, this is a good book to read for them to dip their toes into fantasy & if they like having a romance be at the core of the story
