This is a book I should have DNF'd. But by the time I came to that conclusion, I was already 70% through and decided to just push through. It didn't really improve. All the mysteries went more or less exactly as I predicted, and Mary taking so long to figure things out just frustrated me. The characters were all flat, and that in turn made the romantic elements flat. And so much of this book relies on the connections between the characters, but those relationships weren't developed well at all. The one shining point of this book was the world which was really good, but despite zombies always lurking in the background, that world didn't really get used at all.
