Beard with Me
by Penny Reid
Beard with Me is finally out...
This book was a beautiful journey. Not always easy, not always happy, but it did have funny moments and it did have joyful moments.
It was the right path to better understand Billy Winston: his sense of responsibility, his strong feelings towards certain situations and his hidden capability to laugh out loud. He can be ice and he can be warm. We also get a great understanding of Scarlet and her thoughts through a difficult situation, her incredible courage and the beauty she can create through her art.
The other exceptional part of this book is the way it reflects the Winston family dynamics and moments. We get a dose of secrets and mischief, but also (among other things) Cletus’ singularities and Bethany’s wisdom.
All of the above is wrapped in the author writing style, which is always fluid to read for me, but at the same time invites me to learn and do some reflection about what I read. Penny Reid is one of my favorite authors for a reason.
It has been almost 48 hours and I am still thinking about this book. I didn’t cry that much, but it did left me emotionally sore, mostly because I care too much about these characters. The good news is there is hope, and after reading some of this series, we already know about future shenanigans, loyalties and character growth.
This is the Winston book you didn’t know you needed. But you do.
PS: If you haven’t read any Winston book before, this is not the best place to start. Go and fall in love with these siblings, and then you can come back here.
**Thanks to the author for generously providing an advanced copy of this book.
