The Last Anniversary
by Liane Moriarty
This is not the same as the show, as usual Lianne Moriarty has written a fun, low stakes, chill examination of personal relationships and the show is much more mysterious and dramatic.
I like both versions.
Everyone over 40 already knows the big secret so there's no search and this is all about Sophie's romantic relationships and her integration into the family. I do like that she has kids with her gay best friend from childhood so they can both be parents before it's too late, that was very cute.
It's also about motherhood and PPD, which a lot of mothers in the family have and display in different ways.
Sometimes there's some very overt biphobia and fatphobia and it's not clear if that's meant to say something about the character saying it or it's a genuine belief of the author, but if I can't tell then it's probably best to assume the worst.
