Tempest Runner
by Cavan Scott
This was the script for the audiobook. I didn't realize that when I borrowed a copy. It was an interesting experience.
In my review of Out of the Shadows I expressed surprise that the Nihil were starting to take a back seat. This book was about Lourna Dee being a prisoner and giving us her backstory. So it's not so much that Out of the Shadows wrapped up the Nihil storyarc, it was more that that book introduced another storyarc. I'm really impressed by how many different directions the series is going. Things are really well planned out.
This book was great to give more depth to a major baddie. And the internal fight she battles to either redeem herself or double down. I'd actually recommend the audiobook than this one, even with my poor hearing I can see that working better than reading the script. It did remind me of reading Shakespeare with FX directions instead of stage directions. But there were too many short scenes to really work as a reading experience for me,.
Now for some spoilers to help me remember.
Pan FINALLY dies. Dude was like Jason or Freddy or some other horror movie villain.
Lourna doubles down and returns to the Nihil after finding out Wittick is dying and her redemption was for him to say he did something worthy and not for altruistic reasons. Nicely done.
