I was surprised by this story of betwitchery, and found myself immersed in it. I liked the FMC a lot, she was so fierce, determined and not afraid to speak her mind. Altough that didn't always end up well for her, especially during the times she lived.

๐Ÿž The story takes place in Connecticut, year 1666. An ancient forest spirit is awaken, in the woods behind Abitha's farm, and it is thirsty for blood.

๐Ÿž Abitha and her husband are trying to keep their farm from her greedy brother in law, who is threatening to use their land as a payment for a debt he owes. Her husband ends up dying in an accident (or was it?), and Abitha, now widowed, continues to fight for her farm and land. Wallace, the brother in law, is relentless and determined to take it away from Abitha by all means.

๐Ÿž Abitha finds no other way than to rely on help from the ancient spirit himself. The colonists call him ๐“ข๐“ต๐“ฎ๐”€๐“ฏ๐“ธ๐“ธ๐“ฝ or the Devil. They form a bond like no other and Abitha discovers more about herself and who is Slewfoot.

๐Ÿž But the good that came out of this relationship, doesn't help Abitha with the village. Because Wallace won't give up and soon everything Abitha worked for is crumbling down. Her actions and relationship with ๐“ข๐“ต๐“ฎ๐”€๐“ฏ๐“ธ๐“ธ๐“ฝ ignites a battle between pagan and puritans, a ๐“ซ๐“ช๐“ฝ๐“ฝ๐“ต๐“ฎ ๐“ฝ๐“ฑ๐“ช๐“ฝ ๐“ฝ๐“ฑ๐“ป๐“ฎ๐“ช๐“ฝ๐“ฎ๐“ท๐“ผ ๐“ฝ๐“ธ ๐“ญ๐“ฎ๐“ผ๐“ฝ๐“ป๐“ธ๐”‚ ๐“ฝ๐“ฑ๐“ฎ ๐“ฟ๐“ฒ๐“ต๐“ต๐“ช๐“ฐ๐“ฎ, ๐“ต๐“ฎ๐“ช๐“ฟ๐“ฒ๐“ท๐“ฐ ๐“ท๐“ธ๐“ฝ๐“ฑ๐“ฒ๐“ท๐“ฐ ๐“ซ๐“พ๐“ฝ ๐“ช๐“ผ๐“ฑ๐“ฎ๐“ผ ๐“ช๐“ท๐“ญ ๐“ซ๐“ต๐“ธ๐“ธ๐“ญ๐“ผ๐“ฑ๐“ฎ๐“ญ ๐“ฒ๐“ท ๐“ฝ๐“ฑ๐“ฎ๐“ฒ๐“ป ๐”€๐“ช๐“ด๐“ฎ.

This was a 5โ˜† read for me because I really enjoyed the story, the characters (even though they made me rage), the fairytale woven into it and the author's haunting pictures. The art is amazing and it definitely help visualizing the wildfolk better.
