I'm Glad My Mom Died
by Jennette McCurdy
dark
inspiring
sad
medium-paced
This book and Jennette McCurdy's life was WILD.
I highly recommend the audio, its always amazing to hear the story from the author themselves - it always adds a level of emotional complexity that you just cant compete with when reading it yourself.
While reading this book and continually listening to all the indirect and direct forms of abuse that she experienced from varies different people in her life was harrowing and shocking. What she chooses to tell us about her past is incredibly eye opening to hear what kinds of things are put on children in the entertainment industry from such a young age.
Calorie restriction at the age of 12 is crazy. the care her mother insisted on providing until she was much older was crazy.
Seeing how she continued and coped - how she responded to different things in her environment once she was older - how she navigated her mom's death - her dealings with the fall out and sharing how she progressed and eventually began to heal.
This story is not for the faint of heart but was so so well written.
