The Boy and the Sea by Camille Andros

3.0

The illustrations are nice, but the emphasis on listening to the sea for meditative messages and life guidance is too saccharine for me, and the book is far more likely to appeal to adults than to children. Adults will appreciate the semi-philosophical messages and the emphasis on the boy's growth and change throughout his lifespan, but children are so situated in the present that only the extremely introspective will connect with this book's unfolding timeline and imagine themselves as teenagers, adults, and then elderly people.
