Witch Hunter
by Virginia Boecker
No. Just, no. This book... I couldn't. I cringed on every page. Maybe I would have liked this had I been a newcomer to fantasy but this... just... crippled me. I can't.
LIKES
- It's fantasy? Oh wait. Loads of books are fantasy. Damn.
DISLIKES
- Elizabeth Grey. Hello, Lady Idiot. She was so STUPID. She is supposed to be The Best Witch Hunter, which is an idea introduced at the beginning of the book. Then she spends the rest of the book disproving this statement. She fails at all of her missions. Half the time she can't defend herself. Then she actually says she would die without that weird Rune thing that helps her heal. Girl, this is pathetic. Celaena Sardothien is a freaking assassin and she doesn't need a rune. Also, she is way too dumb to be a Witch Hunter. I thought she was going to be one of those ruthless and awesomely slightly evil characters. #disappointment.
- How everything suddenly changes. For example: Elizabeth hates witches and wizards and etc for the first quarter of the book. Suddenly, they're OK. John is angry at Elizabeth because she's a witch hunter. Suddenly, that's fine and they can kiss.
- Elizabeth was so rude AFTER the wizards and magical people rescued her from the prison. I mean, Caleb didn't save you. They did. GET A BRAIN.
- The writing is awful. It is so simplistic and boring. And how half of the other YA novels of the world are told. Original.
- The magic is so boring. And not interesting. I hate this kind of magic. It bores me. Bored.
- What is this plot??? I couldn't understand why it was happening??? WHERE ARE THE MOTIVES???? HELLLLLLPPP???
- Elizabeth would not stop clinging onto Caleb even when it was obvious he WAS NOT the good guy. And then suddenly she realises she doesn't need him.
- Everything is super confusing. And then I discovered I didn't really care.
- The romance didn't exist. Then it did. And I DO NOT SHIP IT.
- I'm so confused about this world? Is it a historical retelling with witches? Or a high fantasy world? It was never built. It had no background, and I have no idea what was going on.
So, a cringe worthy and badly characterised book. Nope. Sorry, but this just wasn't for me. The characters were awful. Every single one. I'm not even sure what the author was trying to achieve with this??
I'm done.
