Please Look After Mom by Kyung-sook Shin
3.5

The beauty of all the little details in this novel is breathtaking. It almost feels like all the characters are built on the little stories they tell, and the memories they share of their mother and childhood. The rotation of the narration is a little confusing at times, since different characters narrate each section and you aren't told which one begins the narration, so you have to pay attention to details and decipher it yourself.
Please Look after Mom is a great winter read, it really makes you think about the lives parents lead before they have children, that often their children know nothing about. It also makes you reflect on the number of women in generations before us who sacrificed so much for their husbands and children because of social pressures, and the freedom they could have lived from if society hadn't been so restrictive.
