Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi

5.0

I was nervous because I enjoyed Tomi Adeyemi's debut novel/the first of this trilogy SO much, but she is definitely one of the few who can write a damn good sequel. The secondary cast threw me off a little bit because I wasn't too invested in them enough to be able to keep track of who's who, but once all their powers started playing a role in the big battle scenes, it became easier to distinguish who belongs to which clan. I loved Roen's character, and I loved the way the magic system developed significantly in this installment. I flew through the last 100 pages, and my emotions went in twenty different directions within the time it took me to finish that last stretch. I'm also REALLY glad I took the time to read the Q&A with the author at the end because I had no idea this is being made into a MOVIE! I'm SO stoked for that and even more excited to read the finale to this trilogy!
