The Borrowers
by Mary Norton
3.5*
A very sweet little read. Polished it off over a weekend and found it quite charming.
I can't really say anything bad about books like this, not only because it wasn't a bad book but because it is what it is; a light-hearted children's story. Sure, the writing wasn't amazing, but kid's books generally do have simple writing. Speaking of which, it was so easy to read.
I found the characters very likeable, Arrietty especially. Do love a spirited female. Her friendship with the boy was touching and proves that friends can be found in all shapes and sizes.
The story itself was interesting enough to keep me reading and being such a short book, with short and to-the-point chapters, there was never a dull moment. There was always an adventure to be had with each page turn. I also quite liked the twist at the end, like a vague question mark on the entire story. Were the Borrowers real, or just the boy's imagination?
Who knows? But I know which version I prefer to be real.
