Sing My Name by Ellen O'Connell
4.0

I gave this 5 stars on my first read. And the first half deserved that. The second half was too slow and uninteresting, I think I just gave the five because of that first part. There were scenes in this book that to me felt too indulgent. "Bad" men confessing their admiration on the badass-ness of Matt, it's weird. There were scenes like these on "Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold" but it they were fine because the MC there, Cord, was very quiet and the reader needed to see how people perceived him.

I think the reason the second half of this book felt slow was because the story hinged on the MC's stupid decision. In "Eyes of Silver", you understand instantly why Cord didn't think Anne should be with him. You can sympathize. You can't help but think of ways how they're going to raise a kid in that unfair, racist town, or any town. But in this book, they're both white, they can just as easily move to a different town and no one would care. So it's frustrating that Matt was prolonging the inevitable.

I didn't even finish the second reading anymore because I got really bored. Nevertheless, I'm giving this a four because of that first part which was awesome.
