Although the plot and world building was interesting enough, it took a while to pick up character-wise. Throughout the book character development often came across as choppy/unbelievable/two dimensional.
FMC blacksmith/thief? Hello cool, different, bad ass character potential, the execution of her skills/stubbornness were frustrating to say the least. I don’t mind a wildly stubborn character, just wish the stubbornness was less tantrum-y.
MMC was likable enough, the background on his heroics/trauma/life felt rushed and not nearly fleshed out enough.
Love a good enemies to lovers, but the dynamic and banter fell flat. The line between “I’m so attracted to you, but I hate you, but I don’t hate you …I hate that I don’t hate you” was not navigated gracefully. As a banter girly, this did not scratch that itch, although there were some fun moments.
Ultimately did end up genuinely enjoying the plot and certain developments that were different from the usual romantasy book. There was enough tension and (albeit clumsy) character development to keep the pages turning but not enough to really hook you.
