Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne

While I can't say I understand why this would get so many 5 stars, so too can I not understand how this could get someone heated enough for a 1 star rant. This book delivers exactly what it promises: Jane Eyre in spaaaaaace! And nothing else.

I do enjoy Jane Eyre as a story and I liked and understood most of the changes made to the original story. My biggest pet peeve was the age of the Rochester character, which was significantly reduced mostly to keep the creep factor down for a YA story, but honestly I felt like it didn't work. I would have liked him a little older, then maybe pop 'Jane's' age up to 18 instead. But then maybe it doesn't fit into YA any more and we get into a whole argument of what's best for the book vs. fitting it into a nice, publishable category. *Rants on that subject for several hours *

A heads up for scifi fans: this is LIGHT scifi. So. Light. What world building exists is only there to serve the romance plot. Trying to make sense of most of it will hurt your brain and leave you trying to ravle threads that never shall be raveled. Just enjoy the romance and don't think too hard about the reasons for it to happen, and you'll enjoy this book much more. If you're not someone who is able to do that, this book will frustrate you. It frustrated me a little for that reason.

Overall an entertaining read. Enjoyable, readable, pleasant. A good time waster you don't have to think much about. I plan to do a more in depth review on my youtube channel at some point.
