I just wasn't into this story as much as I was with Brother and The Shuddering... something about it being a 6 year old little girl and the devil just rubbed me the wrong way and I'm sure that has to do with the fact that I have two daughters and one is 7... so probably just not the best story for me... there were definitely some creepy AF moments but I was NOT a fan of the dad and his choices when it came to his daughters and I feel he is 110% responsible for what happens at the end, and I'm sorry, but as a parent -- you just don't make the choices he did, no matter what's driving you because you have that deep, gut wrenching, all consuming love for your children and you will do WHATEVER it cost to make sure they are safe, healthy, and happy and he fails so miserably that I just couldn't get behind his reasoning or even feel sympathy over what he went through as a child because as parents -- we do whatever we can to make sure our children don't suffer the same way we did, period. I do think this shows what generational trauma can and will do to families until someone makes a break from it... and it also deals with mental health as per normal in horror stories. Overall, it wasn't a bad story, just not as good as the other two I read and it could just be personal preference. I will still read anything Ania writes and I'm hoping The Devil Crept In comes back to Kindle Unlimited SOON because I think I would really enjoy that one. She is definitely a powerful voice as a female horror author and she doesn't hold back from, well, anything!

**Please be aware that there IS an on page animal death but it's only for one page, doesn't go into too much detail, and it's not of the torture type - it comes when Charlie is playing hide and seek with her pup and her older sister... You'll know when it coming. I like to add this because I'm sensitive to any kind of animal deaths but this wasn't over the top or "too much" when it comes to animal deaths in horror books.
