A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
4.0

Downright the most depressing piece of fiction I have ever read. I enjoyed Yanagihara's writing style, and I especially loved how she jumped in between different timelines while following the characters' lives. I loved the different relationships displayed within the novel whether it be familial, romantic, friendship, etc. However, if you're looking for a book to relax and wind down with at the end of a long day, this is not that book. DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE NOT IN A HEALTHY HEADSPACE OR ARE PRONE TO DEPRESSIVE EPISODES. I find issue with how certain moments are added and described to really make sure that you, the reader, are being psychologically tortured. Despite this, Yanagihara manages to rope you in, attach you to this diverse cast of characters, and twist your heart in so many ways that make you want to put down the book, but you can't because you're already so engrossed within the story. Did I enjoy the story? A sobbing yes. Would I recommend to a friend? Noooo. Would I reread? Probably not only for the sake of mental health.
