I will start by saying, I think most parents would recommend for more 3rd grade and up, as characters do die, or suffer serious injuries on page.
As someone who cannot mentally picture anything, I really loved all the illustrations throughout the story, of the mythical creatures. It made it feel like I was reading someone's field notes from this whole grand adventure and made the story fly by.
I won't say too much on plot, as I like going in blind. But I'm very happy to have a new MG fantasy book to recommend
