This book was a rollercoaster of feelings for me. Went from wanting to DNF at 50 pages to possibility of a 4+ rating before landing back down to where it did. I feel I have to give props for that somehow.

Ruby’s style is starting to evolve a certain way and it’s not in a way I typically enjoy. The reason I wanted to DNF was marriage in trouble vibes as well as real world realistic romance. Now Ruby has done this in the past in a way that I’ve liked(Mari’s Mistake) and that alone is a feat, but most of the time it’s not going to work for me. I read to escape from the real world. To have fun in impossible unreal ways. That’s why I predominantly read sci fi aliens and dark fantasy romance. This book honestly read 95% contemporary romance. Maybe it’s because I’m used to the world now, but it didn’t feel alien anymore. The conflict and story was entirely domestic.

I did love the characters. Daisy was soft, sunny and determined. O’jek was kind, patient, and mostly a take control type. In the past it was mostly the Aliens supporting the heroine through what they were going through. Now she’s starting to give the guys traumas too so they’re both going through it in their own ways. This is a lot of angst and honestly depressing. I was really up and down on O’jek and in the end don’t really know how to feel about him and their romance. Still there were really bright moments that I liked, it just overall isn’t there. I think if you like a more realistic romance then you’ll love it. Also kinda hated what she did to the remaining pairings?
Why set up pairs then take it back at the last minute? I really wanted Flor with R’jaal so the next book is going to be rocky from the start for me.
