I have mixed feelings about this book. I didn’t like it at all at first, the prose felt flat and lacking detail and it’s written in first person which is a thing I don’t normally tend to like. I still feel like there could have been more detail about the surroundings, the little pieces we got where good i just wish there was more. In the first chapter with Edgar, things keep on getting into his hands without explaining how which frustrated me a bit, since the book said he didn’t have a phone or if he did he no longer used it and then a few scenes later he’s in a motel and has a phone?? Idk I could just be stupid and missing stuff but that confused me slightly.
I love Sonjas chapters so much she’s such a mentally ill baddie and I love her for that. I really enjoyed learning about her as a character.
I didn’t like the mom’s chapters much, they bored me a bit and I struggled with reading how she had so little agency it felt like she did nothing. Which is cool cause her whole thing is being there for her family but still I’m unsure of some of the stuff with her was necessary.
I really enjoyed the last 2 chapters of Edgar’s, it was really eerie and well done. I honestly kinda wish the story was longer and contained more of Edgar’s and Sonja’s points of views cause I ate them up and Tsala was also wonderful with the way his chapters paralleled theirs.
Anyway yes I wish the book was longer so that it could dive more into that cause it also addressed so many intense and important things and I think it could have done more with more yk.
It was good, could have been better.
