The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

3.0

I don’t have strong feelings about this book. Objectively, it’s not a bad story. Subjectively, it was just another fantasy book and not as memorable as I would have wanted it to be.

The City of Brass is indeed a breath of fresh air when it comes to its Middle East and Islamic-inspired worldbuilding, it sets the scene and the conflict well for the following books. However, because it was sold to me as an adult fantasy, I expected certain things that it didn’t achieve. It ended up falling short, especially in terms of characterisation and plot, which read as upper YA.

This being said this was the author’s debut. Very much looking forward to hopefully seeing her growth as a writer as the series goes on.
