mariethereader1981 's review for:
All You Need Is Kill
by Hiroshi Sakurazaka
Upon seeing that that the movie was coming out, my husband and I went to look up the backstory and discovered the original Japanese novella (translated into English).
The introspection of the main character and the inherent loneliness of his situation does come through on the pages; I love the thoughts, his inner monologue, which is so difficult to translate to the silver screen. That being said, the movie was also great, but I highly recommend reading the short story first, for the cultural/geographic aspects that are missing from the film.
All in all a great read. I want more.
