Empire of Sand started out fantastic and drew me into this beautifully crafted, South Asian inspired fantasy world. However, as the story progressed, the pace slowed down considerably and dragged by at times. This novel also felt more YA than adult fiction. I didn't hate it but there was room for improvement. Still, one thing Empire of Sand succeeds at is its rich setting and I at least will read the next novel in the series to find out more of the world building and the unique setting.
