This is a second in a series and not having read book 1 first, I didn't feel that I was lost in this next installment. I would have liked to know a few things that must be in book 1 beforehand but I felt ok with the knowledge I got through here.

Annie is a seasoned war photographer. She is tough and fearless. She's smart too. She does the best she can for her daughter when she's away (with the help of a good friend) . Her ex- husband though is such a racist pig of a man accusing his daughter's supposed "personality changes" on her friendship with a Muslim girl. Mel though is such an amazing girl. The fact that she takes it on her and her friend selves to raise money to rebuild a school that was burnt down in Afghanistan.

Annie is back in Afghanistan for a secret assignment but takes a side trip to try and find her best friend's daughter who has been missing. There are so many scary things that a lot of the book is tense but it was so good!
