The Haunting of Alejandra
by V. Castro
"Perhaps everyone wore another set of clothing beneather their human skin, stitched together with all the tings they hated about themselves and tried to hide. How does one shed such a thing?"
I really love V. Castro's style! Creepy, tense, atmospheric, and emotional.
Alejandra is just plain stuck. A stay at home mom to three kids, four if you count the absolute loser asshole she married, she is having a hard time seeing a point to life. And one day, when she is at her lowest point, she sees a vision of a woman in white telling her to embrace these feelings and give in to them. Luckily, she come to her senses enough to get herself to therapy. Only to find that she is the latest victim in her biological family's generational curse under some otherworldy being masquarading as La Llorona.
It was great to watch Alejandra learn to stand up for herself, but man I was really hoping we going to get some delicious feminie rage like we got in The Goddess of Filth, I needed to see Matthew get GOT!!! That man was just looking for someone to walk all over and isolate so he could have a mommy he could fuck without the Oedipus complex.
The ending was satisfying, if not a bit of a whimper, I almost would have prefered to end it on the dread that it is never actually over.
