this feels like a book where i should have learned my lesson when blindly trusting TikTok reviews, even as someone who likes making those reviews lolol.

this was just fine, it wasn't world shattering or mind boggling. the romantic elements in it were both simple and under-developed. the stakes of the plot was often lost in side quests and distractions to entertain the reader but not help our protagonists reach their goals or even deepen their relationship to each other.

the stagnation of the plot made the points we reached feel repetitive because there wasn't a lot of momentum. i wish the author had gone much deeper in character development so we saw more facets of the relationship that was budding versus what we got. i thought the first chapters were the most interesting of the whole book and wish we had kept that kind of intrigue and edge in more of the following novel.
