Angry God by L.J. Shen
1.0

This is my first L.J. Shen book and I was sorely disappointed by the callousness of dealing with sensitive material. I had heard good things about this author and I was excited to read a book by her. I am not against anything explicit, for the most part, but there were graphic scenes between a pedophile and a young boy. I am not okay with that.

I also felt like there was so much aggression and anger the entire time throughout the whole book. I felt no chemistry between Vaughn and Lenny. Like, zero. It just felt like a game between them the entire time that they weren't fully into. I also started getting really annoyed that there was no information given. From the perspectives between both Vaughn and Lenny I felt lost even 40% into the book because I wasn't told anything. Sure, I kind of guessed what was happening but I didn't get confirmation on really anything until the second half of the book.

Lenny is pretty independent for the most part but she is a bit too into being abused by Vaughn. Vaughn is abusive from trauma but there is something about the way that he copes with it that didn't sit right with me. I do appreciate his parents but I was confused by their perspectives brought in. I think that his dad did right to take control of a horrid situation. I didn't like that Vaughn's dad wanted to cover up that Vaughn had been abused to his mother.

The lewd public displays that happen throughout this book felt weird and also unrealistic. Just because they are rich kids doesn't mean that they can get away from authority. The idea that these high school kids have this much control over their school is even more outrageous than the books that I normally read where the kids are in charge. Money talks apparently and that is the cop out.
