What took me so long?!

That’s my reaction after reading Dune. I’ve heard about it since I could remember, avoided films because I didn’t think they’d be for me, and I was a fool for it. This novel seems to be the source of so many cultural references, and I can trace its impact on media throughout.
It helps that the book is captivating. Don’t come here expecting hard science fiction. This is a space opera at its finest. It can be hard going in the first couple of chapters, but once you adjust the writing style and the third person omnipresent narration, it becomes a delight. The world building is fantastic, the world(s) feel fleshed out, and the use of religion and religious beliefs is rather interesting.
If you’re on the edge about reading Dune, do it. The worst outcome is you’ll understand where some references have some from.
