The Hiding Place by Jenny Quintana

3.0

3.5 stars. The Hiding Place is a mystery novel. Marina (or Zoe, as she chooses to be called in order to obscure her identity) was found in the hallway of shared, rented accommodation when she was only a few days old. This is one of the few things she knows about herself: that and the blue shawl she was wrapped in. I liked the fact that Marina's life with her adopted parents was a happy one, but despite this Marina has always wondered about her roots. After a few half-hearted attempts to find out more she decides that the way to learn as much as she can about her past is to move in to a rented room in the house she was found in!

There are three story threads here: Marina's (1992), Eva's (1992) and Connie's (1960s). These gradually come together to provide an explanation.

It was convenient how many people from the past Marina was able to track down and speak to. I felt like a lot of the secondary characters didn't work very well and some things worked out rather conveniently (or inconveniently at other points). A sad and engaging read.
