Neon Gods by Katee Robert
dark
mysterious
tense
fast-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? Plot
- Diverse cast of characters? No
3.0
i’m gonna break it down to the basics:
- the smut was fast build-up and then irrelevant plateauing. tiktok and instagram over exaggerated the smut and honestly i’d give it like a 3 on the spice scale (and that’s probably being generous)
- as a hades/persephone retelling i was immensely let down. the story was a retelling in the barest sense, meaning robert took their names and city and slapped it into some characters.
- BUT, as a book in general it wasn’t bad, and it was easy to get distracted into it
- the lines and sayings and similes/metaphors were repetitive and it felt like it was just the same 4 paragraphs a lot of the time
- hades was really sweet in this and he wasted no time falling in love with persephone
- again, for a book that’s like “renowned” for its smut, it was a let down.
- there was just an abundance of inner monologuing
