The Iron Trial by Holly Black, Cassandra Clare

4.0

It’s difficult not to compare this to the Harry Potter series since there are many similarities. It’s hard to live up to the Harry Potter which I consider one of the all time great series but that doesn’t mean this one isn’t very enjoyable on its own merits. I like the characters and the story. It’s always fun for me to read about newly created magical worlds and this one is well done.

My only complaint and it’s honestly nitpicking at this point but I wasn’t a fan of some of the created names for people and things i.e. Enemy of Death and Chaos-Ridden. They just don’t hit for me. As someone who is an aspiring fantasy author, I understand it’s very difficult to create uniquely cool sounding names for this stuff.

A solid 4 stars for book 1 and I am looking forward to continuing the series.
