The Ever King by LJ Andrews
5.0
Technically, I give this a 4.5. I had heard so much about this book and I love a good dark fantasy romance with spice and a morally grey mmc - this book delivered on all of that! I only deducted a half star because I found it a bit tough to get into. Once I did though, I couldn't get enough of Livia and Erik.
I loved their story, the way they grew together, but also separately as the story unfolded. The side characters were well written and added a significant amount to the emotional effect of the story - even gave me a little bit of a found family vibe, which really elevates a book for me.
The romance is definitely a slow burn, but the payoff is worth it. Spicy, romantic, and passionate, it will give you ALL the feels. I liked that it wasn't the sole plot point of the book, but was woven in alongside the captivating story of magic, betrayal, curses, and adventure.
Look out for the cliffhanger at the end.... thankfully book 2 will be here in just under a week! Definitely recommend if you love dark fantasy romance, vikings and pirates, enemies to lovers, a morally grey mmc and a fiesty fmc, and spicy slow burn!
