The Boy Who Was Raised As a Dog: And Other Stories from a Child Psychiatrist's Notebook by Bruce D. Perry

4.0

Not out to exploit the sensational nature of these stories, child psychiatrist Bruce D. Perry uses his case notes to explain how childhood trauma effects brain development and his knowledge of neuroscience to treat children who will astound you with their courage. He was involved in helping the children of Waco, as well as putting an end to the literal witch-hunt which took place in Gilmer, TX based on the coerced testimony of young children. I learned a lot about the human brain and how people respond to trauma, but even more I learned that community and a strong support network are what helps the most in the healing process.
