Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

adventurous hopeful inspiring mysterious medium-paced

3.5

A fast-paced and "Pirates of the Caribbean"-inspired fantasy series? Count me in, baby.

The story was interesting and took quite a few turns. I loved the pirate ship setting, as well as the feminist approach on pirates and captains. Each character was well developed and consistent in their persona. What I must mention, though, was that there were times when I found the protagonist - Alosa, rather annoying.

The romantic interest was predictable from miles away, which is not necessarily a bad thing (I think it's even mentioned in the blurb). What was lacking a bit in that area, however, was that I felt like the romance could've been better developed. But for a 300 page long book, it was done pretty well. I felt their chemistry, chuckled at their banter and found myself rooting for their happiness.

Definitely seeing myself reading the second book (in fact, I've already started it 👀).
