The Deep by Nick Cutter

adventurous challenging dark emotional mysterious sad tense medium-paced

5.0

I LOVED this book so much that I flew through it in two days.

Deep waters are one of my biggest fears but also the biggest fascination, so I was uncomfortable start to finish. I loved the writing, as someone with Aphantasia (not being able to visualize imagery in my head) this really made me feel like I was down there in the creepy af lab, 8 miles under the ocean experiencing everything along side Luke. There were so many awesomely disgusting body horror scenes. One chapter had me sobbing uncontrollably for like 20 minutes, iykyk. The atmosphere was so on point.

This read was visceral, claustrophobic, bleak, and full of so much dread. Almost like a fever dream, an overall traumatic experience. I can't wait to read more from Nick Cutter.

Read this if you like: cosmic horror, body horror, psychological horror, scifi horror, what lies at the bottom of the ocean, isolation, secretive laboratories, plagues.
And if you were into following the oceangate events last month.
