She Gets the Girl by Rachael Lippincott, Alyson Derrick

4.0

I enjoyed this and it was a quick read. I feel like I’ve seen this story before but I can’t work out where, crush on Hulu maybe??? I liked that it was just a story and the protagonists were gay, and it wasn’t a story specifically about gay protagonists, despite the fact it is quite a generic trope and has been done many times over. I would give 4 - 4.5. Only criticisms are that Alex was quite unlikeable for a lot of it, the author managed to turn it around by making Natalie look bad and maybe it wasn’t Alex all along but I’m still a little on the fence. She still feels like a serial cheater to me. I also don’t love how futile the whole thing seemed with Molly and Cora, I understand she never really knew her in the first place but it all just felt a bit sudden.

‘Some things have to fall apart because they don’t belong together, but some things belong so much they could never break.’

“If you spend your life focusing on the never, then you’ll never actually do anything.”

‘“I love you too, Alex Blackwood,” she says, and it’s all the things I never knew an “I love you” could be, meeting me exactly as I am, without a single condition. It’s coming home instead of running away.’
