I never want to hear the endearment “little menace” again. OVERUSED is an understatement and it got so cringy.

This age-gap/older brother’s best friend/holiday romance was fine, but the miscommunication and pining just didn’t land for me.

Spoilers ahead…
Gavin has abandonment issues from his childhood going from foster home to foster home and found a real family for the first time in his best friend’s. Interestingly enough, 29 year-old Gavin falls for his best friend’s 19 year-old (at the time)sister, and fears that acting on it would ruin the one place that has ever felt like home. Cue: ten years of angst and pining. I understand the author wanting to up the stakes so that there is tension and longing, but there were so many moments where it was like… just be together, literally everyone you know is shipping you both.

The incident that made him disappear from Christmas celebrations for three years was stupid and the ‘hate’ they have for each other at the beginning resultantly doesn’t seem believable. He thinks things like “I could wreck every bit of the future I have planned to get lost with her forever” when his future plans are in no way, shape, or form incompatible with hers because they both love her family and want one of their own…

The not-intentionally-matching tiger cub and fox tattoos were cute and there were some steamy moments where Gavin’s possessiveness came through, but I have readjusted my hopes for “Give Me Butterflies” accordingly.
