Touched by A.J. Aalto
5.0

As a fellow Ontarian and Canadian, I have no wonder about how AJ Aalto has such a fantastic sense of humor! One kind of has to have one living in our fair Province where Leaf's fanaticism, Timmy's coffee and cold, dark winters are a right of passage. Though I didn't grow up in Ontario and am NOT a hockey fan (yes, I'd probably be tarred and feathered in the streets of Toronto had I said that outloud and yes, I am a bona fide Timmy's addict).

But I digress. On with the book review (that I so rarely do unless the book really moves me). I just LOVE quirky yet powerful women lead characters in books written by witty, clever people. Especially when there is a good dose of humor. I am forever a fan of AJ Aalto and was from the very first laugh out loud moment (and there were many!) in "Touched, Book 1 of the Marnie Baranuik Files". The world building, backstory and history of how her brand of vampires came to be and exist is refreshingly unique. Trust me, I've read a lot of vampire series in the last 30+ years to know. I especially loved how "witches" get their "magic" (no spoilers here), Marnie's frog fetish, the wicked, naughty mischievous nature of our Lord Dreppenstedt AND the fact that the book's plot was so clever I just didn't expect what was going to happen next. Oh, and MJ's unending, burning lust for Batten (and later to find out why it was SO very burning lol). Best of all though, was the awesome humor and laugh out loud moments in the book. AJ Aalto has a wicked sense of humor. I bet she has an utterly deadpan way of serving it out in real life, too. She could invite me to coffee any time! I'll take an extra-large triple, triple please. :D

This book, and I'm sure all of the others she's written that I'm about to read, will be forever on my Favorites list. If you like ass kicking, quirky yet still strong and powerful women lead characters with some paranormal romance (yes, there are some hot steamy sex scenes too), then definitely add "Touched" to your to-read list!
