The Gown: A Novel of the Royal Wedding by Jennifer Robson

4.0

It took me a while to pick up this one, despite the good reviews, because I thought it focused on the royal family - and while I'd say I'm semi-interested, I'm not die-hard for the royals. To my surprise, it's actually about two women who worked on the princess's wedding gown and one of their granddaughters who finds some embroidery after her grandmother has passed away and learns more about her through it. Their work on the gown is central to the story, but it's far more about their friendship than the gown.⁣

It's an interesting time period for a story - it's after the war, when things aren't yet back to normal and the upcoming royal wedding is a bright spot for the nation. Miriam is a holocaust survivor struggling to regain both her physical strength & her trust in other people - I really enjoyed that perspective. A great read for anyone, but especially if you love historical fiction!
