Une fille de pasteur by George Orwell

5.0

Such a modern and good critique of human hypocrisy, of religious institutions, of violence against women, of social inequalities. Nothing changed since, and it is frightening.

We follow the social downfall of Dorothy, the son of an Anglican pastor, who is litterally his slave, his unpaid assistant, his despised maid.
After what we could call a professional burnout, Dorothy loses her memory, and loses all the security sha had. Moreover, a rumor (of compromising her chastity, by the way) prevents her from coming back home anyway. She finds herself, her truth during this struggle for survival.

The last pages are one of the best I have ever read. It is heartbreaking, but so true.
