The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

5.0

A good book will challenge the way you think. And that's exactly what The Glass Castle does.

Every word from Jeannette Walls conveys a powerful emotion. Every. Single. Word. Her story is incredibly unique and thought provoking, but by the way she writes, Walls probably could have broken my heart just by writing a story about a sunny day at the park. Although, that would defeat the purpose of The Glass Castle. It's not about sunshine and rainbows. It's about realizing you can't pretend life is sunshine and rainbows when it's not. Because that's when you learn to accept it.

That's when you get too comfortable.

As Jeannette Walls grows up, you can feel the shift from childish hope and trust to discomfort and doubt to downright frustration and anger. Read this memoir. Read it, and feel every word. Although the chapters are short (most are only a few pages), every part has a purpose. You will questions your beliefs on love, family, life, and purpose, but it's worth it.
